Leicester City have confirmed the arrival of Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles.
Lascelles leaves St James’ Park after making more than 250 appearances for the Magpies, many of them as club captain, where he built a reputation as a leader both on and off the pitch.
The 32-year-old’s move was officially announced on Tuesday morning, shortly after the transfer deadline, with the Foxes unveiling their latest addition as they continue to reshape their squad.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Lascelles admitted he was delighted to begin a new chapter in the Championship.
“I’m buzzing to walk through the door,” he said. “It’s a great environment here, massive support and top-class facilities. I’m really looking forward to helping out, pushing the team up the table and meeting the lads.
“I’m definitely bringing high standards and professionalism. For me, those things are non-negotiable. It’s about the small details every single day, pushing myself and others, and maintaining the right standards.
“If you get that right around the training ground, it naturally carries into matches.
“I’ll give everything. I’ll run through a brick wall for this club in every game and every training session.”
Lascelles famously captained Newcastle during their memorable 4-1 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain in October 2023 and also led the club back to the Premier League from the Championship a decade earlier.
His arrival brings a wealth of experience to Leicester’s back line, and he could make his debut as soon as this weekend against Birmingham City as the Foxes look to climb from 16th place in the table.
