The developers have revealed new content for the Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Illuminate update, and it’s a whamy. Since beating them back from their invasion of Super Earth, the Illuminate have had time to organize and regroup, and in a few days, they will unleash their wrath. On that note, here are five changes coming to Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Illuminate update.
Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Illuminate update introduces these five new changes

Exomechs (Image via Sony)
They come in two variants: Veracitor (capable of fighting at close quarters) and Gatekeeper (engages targets at ranged distance). Unlike the Harvesters, these are faster and deadlier. Think of them like the Vox Machine of the Automatons, but much more sci-fi.
Obstruders

Unlike the regular Watchers, Obstruders don’t call for backup, but rather attack you on sight. Their objective is not so much to alert other Illuminate as it is to outright kill you when given the chance.
2) Illuminate Fleets

Much like the Cyborg Legion that have their unique tactics, the Illuminate Appropriators (new sub-faction) will have their own. They will rely on Exomechs and Illuminate units only to accomplish their goal. On the other hand, Mindless Masses will rely on hordes of voteless and fleshmobs to meet objectives. Based on the sub-faction in play, your loadout will change drastically.
3) Illuminate Exostorms

Exostorms are deadly environmental hazards that you will need to avoid to stay alive. Planets experiencing Exostorms can be seen on the Galactic Map. However, seeing and having to live through them on the planet’s surface will be quite different. To add to the woes, the Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Illuminate update will not just introduce Exostorms, but also feature them in varying intensities
4) New Mission – Destroy Exospire

The Exostorms are being caused by Exospires. Super Earth has deemed them dangerous, and you will need to stop them. This will be one of the new mission objects you will need to complete on planets. Here’s the flow of the Missions:
“Sub-objective: The Exospire is protected by a force shield. The squad will first have to locate the access nodes that connect to the subterranean shield generators and overload them with an electrical surge of liberating force.
Primary Objective: Once the force shield has been deactivated, the squad will enter the Exospire’s chamber and destroy its core by eliminating the Dark Fluid cells that maintain it.”
5) Flamerthrowers and Exosuits small rework

The Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Illuminate update reworks the Flamethrower to make it more effective against organic targets. Rather than merely setting them alight, it will also make them slower. The newly released SMG/FLAM-34 Stoker and B/FLAM-80 Cremator will now yield more utility. Here’s what the developers had to say:
“Smaller to medium-sized enemies will, in general, be slower while getting flamed with a flamethrower.
Small to medium automatons, small to large terminids, and small to medium illuminates will be confused and panic when getting flamed in the face, which leads to them attacking randomly.

The “hitbox” for Exosuits has also been slightly reworked in Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Illuminate update. You will no longer be “ghost-stamped” by an Exosuit, allowing you to run closer to its legs. Of course, you can still die if you get stepped on, but that’s a different issue.
That’s about all the major changes coming to the Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Illuminate update. Aside from these, there are balances as well for weapons, strategems, and enemies.
