Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has credited club legend Frank Lampard as a key influence behind his improved form and growing impact in the final third this season.
The Argentine international has added more goals and assists to his game under current head coach Liam Rosenior, and Fernandez admits studying Lampard’s movement and timing has played a major role in that development.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandez revealed he has been watching footage of the former Chelsea captain to better understand how to operate closer to goal.
“He’s an inspiration. I’ve watched a lot of videos of Frank since coming to Chelsea,” Fernandez said. “I’ve seen how he got into those last metres of the pitch and how he got into the box.”
Fernandez explained that during Lampard’s brief spell as Chelsea manager, he was deployed deeper in midfield, limiting opportunities to learn directly from him on attacking positioning.
“During the time he was our coach, I didn’t play in this position, I played further back, so I couldn’t talk to him much about it,” he added. “But I’ve been watching and learning from his videos since I came to the club.”
Now managed by Rosenior, Fernandez has been given more license to push forward, something he believes has unlocked another dimension of his game.
“I’ve enjoyed being able to add goals and assists to my game,” he said. “The coach gives me freedom to express myself in the last few metres of the pitch and I’ve been feeling good.”

Fernandez was also quick to play down any comparisons with Lampard, insisting the Chelsea great remains in a different league.
“He was an exceptional player and a legend here,” Fernandez said. “I don’t like to be compared to him because he achieved so much more. He’s an idol. I hope to follow in his footsteps at Chelsea.”
With growing confidence, tactical freedom, and lessons drawn from one of the club’s greatest ever midfielders, Fernandez is beginning to look increasingly decisive for the Blues.
