Liverpool’s incoming centre-back Jérémy Jacquet has suffered what has been described as a “serious” injury, just days after his move to Anfield was made official.

Rennes head coach Habib Beye confirmed the setback following his side’s 3–1 defeat to Lens on Saturday.

The 20-year-old was clearly in pain after awkwardly landing on his shoulder during the match. Medical staff quickly attended to Jacquet, who was unable to continue and was substituted after being helped off the pitch.

The injury comes less than a week after Liverpool announced they had agreed a deal to sign Jacquet this summer. The transfer is reportedly worth £60 million, with £55 million guaranteed and a further £5 million tied to performance-related add-ons.
