Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has suggested his former side would have shot at the title under manager Michael Carrick.

United have won four consecutive matches under interim boss Michael Carrick since he took over from Ruben Amorim, beating the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Those 4 wins on the bounce is the first time United have reached such a feat in 2 years. That run could turn to five as the Red Devils face West Ham United on Tuesday night in what would be an incredible turnaround for the side.

Now, speaking in association with casino.org, where he is now the UK ambassador for the online casino comparison site, Owen told GOAL that United would be considered title contenders under Carrick if the league started over.

“In its current guise, the current team and the way they are playing at the moment, they could end up being second or third in the league at the end of the season.

“If the league started tomorrow, you couldn’t rule them out of having a real fighting chance of challenging for the league – the way they are playing, the way Liverpool are playing, the way City are playing. In general, their seasons have been pretty poor, and it’s going to be a low points total winning the league this season. You couldn’t rule it out the way they are playing at the moment.”

A win against West Ham as well as helping United secure Champions League football would help Carrick land the job permanently. Staying next season, the former midfielder could help the side forge a title run as many begin to back the 44-year-old.
