Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday that Marcus Rashford is suffering from discomfort in his left knee after a knock against Mallorca, ruling him out of the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid. Raphinha also missed training.
Barcelona forwards Raphinha and Marcus Rashford both missed Wednesday’s training session at the Joan Gamper training complex, the final one before their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg away to Atletico Madrid.
The England international limped through the final minutes of the recent La Liga EA Sports match against Mallorca and has not trained normally throughout the week. On Wednesday, FC Barcelona released a medical report detailing that Rashford “is experiencing discomfort in his left knee stemming from a knock received” during the clash against the ‘Bermellones’. This injury consequently rules him out of the Copa.
Meanwhile, Raphinha is struggling with a right adductor overload, which has kept him out of the Catalan side’s last two fixtures. Earlier in the week, at the Toresky Awards gala where he received the ‘Sportsman of the Year’ honour, the Brazilian forward claimed he felt “better”, but admitted doubts.
“We don’t know yet if I’ll be able to play against Atletico. We’re taking it day by day, and if I feel good, then yes, I’ll be able to play,” stated Raphinha, who has been sidelined since he withdrew at half-time during the Elche match on 31st January. Since then, he has missed fixtures against Albacete in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals and Mallorca in La Liga.
The likely absences of both players, pending official confirmation of the squad list, would add to a growing injury list that already includes Pedri Gonzalez, Pablo Paez Gavira ‘Gavi’, and Andreas Christensen.
