Borussia Dortmund moved to within three points of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga after a commanding 4-0 victory over FSV Mainz 05, extending their unbeaten league run to 15 matches (W11, D4).

With the opportunity to trim Bayern’s advantage at the summit, Dortmund made an assertive start in front of a raucous Westfalenstadion crowd. A precise Julian Ryerson free-kick in the 10th minute found Serhou Guirassy, who powered home a header to register BVB’s 10th Bundesliga opener from a set piece this season — a league high.

Five minutes later, Ryerson was again the architect, delivering another inviting ball into the area that Maximilian Beier converted from a tight angle at the far post to double the advantage.

Mainz threatened to respond but lacked precision. Silas failed to hit the target when well placed, while Silvan Widmer had the ball in the net only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

The visitors were punished before the interval as Guirassy struck again, heading in from a Ryerson corner to claim his 11th league goal of the campaign.

Dortmund maintained control after the restart, with Daniel Batz called into action to deny Felix Nmecha, Beier and Julian Brandt. Guirassy nearly completed his hat-trick just past the hour mark, glancing a header narrowly wide from close range.

The fourth goal eventually arrived six minutes from time, as Dominik Kohr inadvertently turned another Ryerson delivery into his own net, capping a dominant display.

Dortmund remain the only Bundesliga side unbeaten at home (W9, D2), conceding just eight goals at the Westfalenstadion and recording seven clean sheets — both league bests.

The result keeps pressure firmly on Bayern, who sit three points clear with a game in hand. For Mainz, a second defeat in six outings (W4) halts their momentum, leaving them only two points above the relegation play-off place heading into the remainder of the weekend fixtures.
