Atalanta BC maintained their unbeaten start to 2026 in Serie A with a 2-0 victory away to SS Lazio, recording a sixth win in eight league matches. Lazio, meanwhile, have now claimed just one victory in their last seven home league outings.

With few recent matches involving both teams scoring, the opener carried added weight. Atalanta nearly struck first after 15 minutes when Lorenzo Bernasconi lofted the ball beyond Ivan Provedel and squared for Nikola Krstovic, only for Oliver Provstgaard to scramble back and divert the effort over the bar on the line.

Lazio responded, forcing Marco Carnesecchi into action. Kenneth Taylor saw an acrobatic attempt saved before striking the post from Daniel Maldini’s lay-off.

The breakthrough arrived just before half-time. A Davide Zappacosta cross struck the arm of Danilo Cataldi, and after a lengthy VAR review, a penalty was awarded. Ederson stepped up and calmly sent Provedel the wrong way for his first league goal of the season.

Early in the second half, Lazio thought they had a penalty of their own when Zappacosta was penalised for handball while challenging Nuno Tavares. However, another extended review overturned the decision due to an offside in the build-up.

Carnesecchi then preserved Atalanta’s lead with a sharp save from Tijjani Noslin’s glancing header before the visitors doubled their advantage just before the hour mark. Nicola Zalewski collected the ball on the turn and curled a superb 20-yard strike beyond Provedel into the bottom corner.

Lazio’s hopes of a comeback were slim, having taken just one point this season from matches in which they conceded first. Maldini fired over, a free-kick was parried by Carnesecchi, and Petar Ratkov struck the post late on, but the hosts could not respond.

The result continues Atalanta’s strong recent record in Rome, with just one defeat in their last nine visits to face Lazio, whose three-match unbeaten run in all competitions comes to an end.
