Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font says a priority is to fix the relationship between the club and Lionel Messi.

Font will challenge current president Joan Laporta in the March election and insists the way the current board has treated Messi must be rectified.

On El Larguero, Font lashed out at Laporta and asserted that “reconciliation with Messi should’ve been a priority since he left”.

“The fact that he has to sneak into the Camp Nou, that we broke off relations with Leo and not with Real Madrid, is unforgivable,” he added.

Another prominent name in the interview was former Barca coach Xavi Hernández.

The Barca legend was Font’s main asset in the last elections and has once again received his support for these elections. Although he will not have a position at the club, as the candidate himself announced, the former captain and coach is once again supporting his ticket because “he is very disappointed with the current board.

“Xavi feels very deceived and what he wants is a change of model, a modernisation of the club, and for it to stop being such a personalistic presidency.”

Asked if, in the event of a victory, he would maintain the break in relations with Real Madrid, Font asserted that, “as long as RMTV continues to influence refereeing decisions, that will be the case.

“Referees have always favoured Real Madrid. Even before RMTV existed, yes. Since I was a child, I’ve suffered from refereeing decisions that favour Real Madrid. These are the facts: Madrid has been awarded 16 penalties in 23 matchdays. I’m referring to historical realities, and what makes no sense is the populist rhetoric, the rhetoric of deceiving Barcelona’s members,” he concluded.
