Manchester City have begun early groundwork for a potential summer move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, with the player emerging as a key target ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Sources indicate that City’s recruitment team is already planning for squad evolution, even as the club remains fully focused on competing for trophies this season. While no formal talks are expected in the immediate future, Nottingham Forest are aware of City’s interest and expect a possible approach in the coming months.
Behind the scenes, City are preparing for a period of transition. Bernardo Silva and John Stones are both expected to leave once their contracts expire, while there is cautious optimism around securing new deals for Rodri and Phil Foden. Despite the club’s desire to retain both players, their long-term futures are not yet fully resolved.
Further departures are also anticipated. Nathan Aké, Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovačić are all viewed as potential exits, which would create room for fresh additions across multiple areas of the squad.
Anderson is seen as an ideal option to reinforce City’s midfield, offering energy, versatility and Premier League experience. However, competition for his signature is expected, with both Manchester United and Liverpool also monitoring his situation closely.
City remain confident in their transfer strategy, having enjoyed consistent success in the market in recent seasons. That confidence was underlined in January, when the club invested £84 million to secure the signings of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guéhi.
With further reinforcements planned, City are expected to approach the summer window with the same ambition that has defined their recent dominance.
