Olympique de Marseille extended their winless run in Ligue 1 to three matches after conceding a dramatic 97th-minute penalty in a 2-2 draw with RC Strasbourg Alsace.

Following Roberto De Zerbi’s departure earlier in the week, Jacques Abardonado took interim charge of Marseille and saw his side survive an early scare. Martial Godo met a cross at the far post inside four minutes, but Geronimo Rulli produced an outstanding diving save to preserve parity.

That intervention sparked the hosts into life. After 14 minutes, Amine Gouiri split the defence with a precise through ball, allowing Mason Greenwood to delicately lift his first touch over goalkeeper Mike Penders for the opener.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang nearly doubled the lead soon after, but Penders denied him twice in quick succession with sharp saves.

Strasbourg struggled to threaten for much of the half, though Joaquin Panichelli did clip the roof of the net shortly before the interval as a warning sign.

Marseille appeared in control after the restart, and Gouiri capitalised on hesitant goalkeeping to make it 2-0, cutting inside and curling home via the far post.

With 20 minutes remaining, the contest seemed settled. However, Strasbourg reignited hope when Sebastian Nanasi’s deflected strike looped beyond Rulli with 16 minutes to play.

Deep into stoppage time, the visitors were awarded a penalty after Emerson Palmieri brought down Gessime Yassine. After a lengthy delay, Panichelli stepped up and, despite Rulli getting a strong hand to the effort, forced the ball over the line to complete the comeback.

The result leaves Marseille 11 points adrift of leaders Paris Saint-Germain and two points behind Olympique Lyonnais in third, their title ambitions fading.

Strasbourg, meanwhile, halt a run of consecutive defeats and move to within two points of the top six, despite also being without a win in three outings.
