Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath praised 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his ability to generate power at such a young age ahead of IPL 2026. Badrinath further compared Suryavanshi’s six-hitting ability to that of legendary Team India batter Yuvraj Singh.
The teenager has been in incredible form across various junior levels, following his brilliant debut IPL season last year. Suryavanshi recently helped India win the Under-19 World Cup, scoring 439 runs at an average of almost 63 and a strike rate of 169.49 in seven matches.
Talking about the youngster ahead of the 2026 IPL season, Badrinath said on his YouTube channel (7:44):
“He is coming into this IPL in superb form. When I watch Vaibhav Suryavanshi, it reminds me of a young Yuvraj Singh. Talent aside, to generate this amount of power at this age is what sets him apart. I’ve never seen a 16 or 17-year-old boy have so much power. I remember Yuvraj used to hit sixes out of the group at the Under-19 level itself. Six-hitting is a talent, but to smash it out of the ground is power. Vaibhav is similar.”
Suryavanshi dominated the cricketing headlines with his breathtaking 80-ball 175 in the Under-19 World Cup 2026 final against England.
“Everyone would have had an eye on him” – S Badrinath on Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Subramaniam Badrinath cautioned Vaibhav Suryavanshi about the potential second-season challenges he could face in IPL 2026. The southpaw grabbed the IPL by storm in his debut season last year, scoring 252 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55 in seven outings.
It included an incredible 38-ball 101, where he reached the century off a mere 35 deliveries, the second-fastest in IPL history, against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
“This is an important season for him (Suryavanshi) as well. He did brilliantly in his debut season, but this season, everyone would have had an eye on him and come up with plans to combat him,” said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).
Despite Suryavanshi’s heroics in the second half of the season, RR finished ninth with only four wins in 14 games. The left-handed opener will look to help turn things around for the franchise in his likely first full season in IPL 2026.
