Premier League champions Arsenal are preparing a second, improved bid for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes after seeing their initial £55 million offer rejected. The Gunners have identified the 28-year-old Brazilian international as a priority midfield target as manager Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad for their upcoming title defense. Despite Newcastle immediately shutting down the opening approach, Arsenal remain undeterred, with newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta driving the push for a player he has admired since his tenure at Atletico Madrid.
Newcastle have made it clear they are highly reluctant to part with their captain, who remains under contract at St James’ Park until June 2028. Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the Magpies are under no financial pressure to sell their most influential player, even after missing out on European qualification for the upcoming campaign. However, Newcastle’s hierarchy is reportedly bracing for a more substantial financial package from the north London club that will test their resolve, acknowledging that the allure of joining the reigning champions could be difficult for Guimaraes to ignore.
The midfielder is currently starring for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, where his standout performances have only inflated his market value and justified Arsenal’s aggressive pursuit. Guimaraes has already registered three assists in the group stages—including two in a victory over Scotland—as the Seleção prepare for their knockout clash against Japan. While aware of the ongoing dialogue between the clubs, he remains focused on his international duties following a stellar domestic campaign where he recorded 17 goal contributions in 41 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side.
The pursuit of Guimaraes is part of a broader summer of evolution for Arsenal as they aim to solidify their position at the summit of English football. The club has already secured the permanent £34.5 million signing of defender Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen and is reportedly monitoring Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, who carries a potential £100 million price tag. For now, all focus remains on whether Arsenal’s imminent second bid will be enough to break Newcastle’s firm stance on their star midfielder.
