Manchester United’s anticipated transfer for Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder, Éderson, has completely broken down.
Michael Carrick’s team had initially shaken hands on a £35 million fee to bring the 27-year-old to Old Trafford as part of their summer midfield overhaul. However, the deal hit a major roadblock following reports that United harbored serious reservations regarding the player’s physical fitness.
These medical concerns came to light after Éderson underwent physical assessments following Brazil’s Round of 16 World Cup exit at the hands of Erling Haaland and Norway. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the move is now totally dead after Manchester United altered their summer strategy and informed the Italian side of their decision.
While Atalanta remains completely certain that the midfielder is 100% fit and intends to reintegrate him into their squad, United has shifted focus, finalizing a separate £50 million package with Chelsea to secure young talent Andrey Santos.
